O what a day… weather looked a bit iffy and to think I nearly cancelled…

Trip across the bay started at 4.30 am and ”snappa” traveled at 30km until we reached the cape for a slow and careful as the sea was a bit sloppy.. Outside was just picture perfect with about variable 5 kts...

Fishing was excellent and our bag limit of snappa reached…My crew [Craig from P.B.A.] scored some large snapper. The current was raging south at about 3 - 4 kts and hard to keep the baits near the bottom …

Tried out on the 100 meter line for one snappa but the current was too strong so back to the rock to finish the day off. Hooked a large dolphin fish around 15kgs but my deckie had two UN successful attempts at netting the fish but finally the hooks pulled beside the boat and in a way I was glade .. Bloody shame to have killed such a beautiful fish and the colors were lit up…..

Good fish Snappa, I was further down at the 35's and hardly lost a bait. The current was difficult. Floaters with a 10 ball aren't really floaters are they. Only fish I noticed that were caught around that area were a very odd one in a chartere boat fishing very heavy paternoster rigs. A shame really given that conditions were very good. It was interesting looking at the SST graph on the Pt Lookout wave rider, the temp jumped approx 2 degrees in an hour or so about midday Friday and then dropped back. Probably an indication of the current starting to hit at that time.
