Well, today's effort was much like last weeks :-/. Searched around for some LT's but couldn't find and so of to the luck patch of coffee rock. It was firing and when arriving to jig bait I also let down a big soft plastic and WHAMMO....blistering run straight down and SNAP :'(. Between the landed cobes something kept biting thru the 80lb jenkai without even the rod tip moving. Just wind in and nothin. Put on a single strand and minutes later a healthy mac tuna and more cobes were landed. Never saw what I think was biting through the leaders. There were pleanty of bustoffs today which kept us constantly re-rigging but it wasn't all bad as it kept the fight short and gave our arms a rest. Oh I forgot to mention, I seemed to have realised today that I must have left the gaff at the last trips carlovers washout :'(. The cobes just didn't seem to wanna swim into the small net for me so it was attempts of punching them in the heads to stun them then gill grip them into the boat.....it was good for a laugh ;D.
Cheers, Jay

Too weak to be released as without the gaff we had to exaust them to the boat

Top fish jay, you've been nailing some quality cobia of late. Whens the new rig going to get a run offshore from Morton or Mooloolaba?

I was 1st thinking that the biteoffs must have been a mackeral but usually they will also attack some baits off the jig or you'll bring up the occasional 1/2 bait left on the rig. I had a school of bait up behind the boat in the berley trail, all of a sudden they scattered quick I turned to my light action rod and no movement but when i pulled it in, a clean bite off. Sneaky...sneaky it was ;D.

Paul, we didn't look for any macs and there were no boats in sight of us all day so I couldn't really tell ya mate. Just small mac tuna and frigates on the way out slashing the surface.
Phil, you wern't meant to tell anyone ;).
Luke, soon mate...very soon ;).
Cheers, Jay

So Jay

How are you finding the 107cdf, it's obviously put you onto a pretty good Cobe spot? #;)

Well done with them mate, looks like junior's gunna be brought up on a fresh fish diet. # 8-)

The new rig looks the goods too, well worth the wait by the looks.

I was going to pm you, I had friday off but decided to do some maintenance instead. Oh well, now I have enough brownie points for quite a few fishing trips away now.

Cheers,
Tony # 8-)

Lifes tough when you have to settle for bycatch like that ;D

I haven't run into it when I have been using livies like you were but those no indication bite offs are usually the handy work of big green sea toads this time of year. If it was them the wire would have quietened them down for a while but you probably would have found they did the same thing to the single strand.

Obviously Jay, you have that place sorted.

Jeez it looked like dark clouds in the background in the " on water pic ". ;) ;) ;) ;)

And the new rig looks the goods, and you have christened it well !
