We left Bribie Island at 4:30am to chase some of these Mackerel that have been reported to be everywhere around the shipping channel.

About two years ago I was converted to plastics and lures, so we trolled a couple of lures in the hope of catching at least 1 Mackerel. - Nothing, not even a splash.

We kept trolling until we arrived at the M2 where we saw four large cobia following our boat.

There were no livies around so we decided to use some heavy metal jigs. Just one jig from the bottom and our first cobia was on. Almost every drift resulted in either a follow or another cobia. We caught five cobia, kept two and released three. Blocka was also there and was having great success on livies.

After about an hour we decided to look for new spots in the Wide Caloundra area. The sea was flat as the photos show and the fishing was even better.

Great day and great company but it was time to send Ross back to Melbourne before he got to like it up here.

Come on Scalem. Its time to get into some real fish and leave those boring snapper alone.

Hey Shadowmaster

We had only ever caught them on Live Bait. It is amazing what you can catch on Plastics or on knife jigs.

Wow, looks like yet another great day out. Will really have to do something about my hectic life and come out and join you and finally christen the Shimano TLD25 rig. Nice to see some familiar faces from the ENS Fishing classic getting a part of the action as well. Chat soon.

Very good day by the looks, I am not jealous one bit. ::) No wonder you were not answering my calls on 27MHZ, either you were out of range or just too busy hooking into fish to answer me?? You da man![smiley=scholar.gif] I will have to get that epirb and follow you out, I could have been out there in a 12 ft tinnie by the looks of the glass out.

We had a good day no matter where you were on the water, it was great weather, and I will keep telling myself catching snapper in the bay is still good fun :'( :'( :'( :'(

Hi Andrew,

By the time that you get to use the TLD it will have rusted up. It must be about 10 years old by now

Hi Brian,

There will be plenty of opportunities between now and the new year. There will always be a spot for you if I can get rid of all these Victorians.

How did you go?

Good Morning slyham775,

Since being converted to Plastics I have bought some Loomis Rods and Stradic Reels.

The Fish were caught with a Loomis GL2 and a Stradic 6000.

My Mate Ben uses a GL2 with a Stradic 8000.

Great Fun on Light Gear

Thanks for the reply.

BOM Was wrong again????? Why do people blame the BOM weather forecast?? they do their best but its not always exactly right is it?

Check the BOM for sure, check Seabreeze and then use something known as the Mark 1 Eyeball for yourself.....................go down to the edge of the ocean and have a look at whats going on. The swell never reached the predicted height on the Seabreeze graph and the wind started dropping late on Friday as predicted. From memory the wind forecast for Saturday morning was less then 5 knots which looked like it would make for glassy conditions. If there is a residual groundswell - so what! it doesnt stop you fishing. Nasty choppy conditions come with wind - no wind; and its just glass on a few lumps of ground swell as they pass.

A little swell is no problem if you fish out of Mooloolaba.

Hi again Frank, nah the TLD is a quality piece of equipment and won't rust. You have to get it wet first before that happens [smiley=lolk.gif]
