Well we headed to 1770 thursday night 10th november & settup camp ready for a fish on friday, the weather friday morning was ordinary but the call was made to go to some close grounds we had a lot of trouble getting the anchor to hold so an early call was to head in, the fish we caught arn't worth a mention.

Saturday the weather looked a lot better so we wnt a little wider & looked around some new marks dropped the anchor & where rewarded with some nice parrot, huge hussar , grassies, stripies.
we ended up with a great feed of fish.

Sunday headed out again early to almost a glass out perfect weather, we fished a spot further north & wide today & it was the best spot by far with grassies up to 65cm, 1 Red Emporer 89cm nice sized parrot , huge hussar & stripies & pinkies.

Monday packed up & headed home

Great to meet Tony but didn't quite get the chance to have a fish together. another time we will.

Tim,

See you don't have to make it all the way up to North West ;D

Did you make it out to the outer reef propper and fish on the outer edges of Boult, Fitzroy etc or did you stay on the insides of the reef?

Great fishing for the close grounds boys,

Can you get to it in a 14ft tinnie?

my mate has a 4.3 centre console we would have gotten there easy in it with the weather we had :o 8-) gotta love that, the so called bar at 1770 is just slop but i'm sure on certain winds would stand up.

Great fish you caught well done. The conditions look awesome! Well done guys.

Yeah the bar is nothing on a nice day but going through it after big wind and a run out low tide can be a little concerning. On a good day we take the old 4.6m quintrex out about 35 km no problem. Just have to keep an eye on the weather.

Hey Kleiny, some nice pics, is that round hill headland in one photo?
If so have seen some nice fish pulled off the beach from the right of that particluar shot, once saw a trevor landed, estimated at least 30pound!
Talkin back 10 to 15yrs ago when it was a hard slog just to get to 17(with the corrigation road which seemed like for ever) fish were surely plentiful an hope not much has changed. back then I remember going on a charter out off there an between the old boy,my bro an I we smashed them with a combined end yeild of 76kg of fillets, had nothin to complain about considering we steamed out at about 6am and got back at about 8pm, seems an overkill now but back then it was fishing on a quiet day! I have a pic or two once I learn how to scan an post!
cheers jason

Well Well, a nice Red. And ya gotta love those Hussar. I know people say they just make up the numbers, but BTF they taste good. I see there was a few good size buggas there, as was on our last trip. And that big Stripey ( Spanish Flag ), one of the sweetest fish around.

Will catch up to you in the "Bay" soon.

Cheers Phill

Straight off the dpi fishweb site.

Coral reef fin fish
Three, nine-day periods have been implemented as closed seasons to the taking of all coral reef fish in October, November and December each year around the new moon period. The closures are designed to protect spawning aggregations of most coral reef fish species.

For 2005 the closures for waters east of Cape York between 10°41’ south (near Cape York) and 24°50' south will be:

27 September to 5 October;
27 October to 4 November; and
25 November to 3 December.

Thanks mate, would have been really annoyed to get up there and find out we couldn't keep out catch, still deciding where else to go now south of Fraser tip...........any suggestions, I have a 6.4m trailcraft, had it for almost a year now and apart from 5 black marlin in 2 hours at the gold coast seaway last xmas have not really had much luck or time off from work so I'd like to get some reel action happening soon!!!
