Headed North East from the Seaway on Saturday on board Fair Game. Fair Game is a 34ft Black Watch owned by Danny Simmons on the Gold Coast. Put the gear in around 7.30am. The water was hot and looked good as we worked a current line in 60m with green on one side and blue on the other. We did our best to loose every fish that showed an interest in our lures. By 10.00am we had dropped 3 Mahi Mahi had a shot from 1 Black Marlin and saw another. Not so good but kept on truckin. Just after 10.00am we saw another boat Five Star tag a good Black around 50kg on 8kg after a spirited fight. With the water only getting better things were looking good.

At 10.15am I changed a couple of the lures around and it soon paid off at 10.30am with a solid little black appearing behind the long rigger. It turned on the after burners, inhaled the Meridian lure and came tight with a solid hook-up. After the initial run and high tailing antics the fish settled down and went deep. After about 30min it came back up to the surface and came within a 1m of a tag shot but once again sounded. It was a solid fish and a great battle but after 1hr 10min the tag finally went in and my mate Brandon had finally popped his cherry. It was a good fish at 1.7m short length and around 50-55kg as it was an extremely fat fish.

Lures went back out and we soon had a nice little Bull Mahi Mahi on that after a acrobatic fight found is way into the esky for dinner.

At 1.30pm we pulled up stumps and headed in after a very satisfying second half to the day after losing so many fish straight up it was a great way to finish with two solid hook-ups.

Here is a shot of the Mahi Mahi. Shots of the Black will follow shortly.

Billo,

We did tag one, dropped one and had another up.

Forgot to mention that we also saw a free jumper whilst we were hooked up.

There were other reports of some good Blacks around with Big Deal losing a fish at 120-150kg on 8kg after a 4 hour fight. They had it close to the boat a couple of times but not close enough to get the tag in.

Looks like things are starting to hot up just in time for the holidays.
