Dove at hutchies, flinders etc yesterday and got a 10kg spanish in the morning, a 5kg tusky and in the afternoon had a dive at hutchies and had a 26kg spanish come into range. Nice last fish for the year. Cheers all Doug

Nice fish indeed Doug :o :o :o But I have to say Id be a bit dubious about being in the water with big toothy critters like that bloke and his bigger mates cruising about :-/

Are you just snorkelling around, no scuba? How do you attract the fish to get him within range?

DougHanning
31-12-2005, 02:12 PM
Its only legal to spearfish while snokelling. Scuba would be impractical and unsporting. We were burleying and had sharks, cobia etc in our burley trail when he came along. If you dive down and just hang in the water spanish will often come to have a look at you, the secret is to appear non-threatening and have a bit of luck!

I think the amount of time I have spent chasing pelagics has more to do with me getting a few good fish. Between this fish and a couple of wahoo I landed about 3 weeks ago I have been out 3 times and come back empty. So for the amount of time I have spent burleying and jigging my flasher its not a lot of fish, but you have to be putting in the effort to get big fish. I love freediving so the fish are an added bonus and I still have a ball when I don't spear anything. Thanks for the positive feedback guys. Happy New Year Doug

We were burleying and had sharks, cobia etc in our burley trail when he came along.

Not for me [smiley=wreck.gif] Thats not the best place to be when the sharks have got all the senses going nuts cause of the burley.

Great fish though

Doug, thats just puncey mate..., mind if I use that as live bait? Still 10kg off the world record buddy, stop wasting valuable posting space with rubbish..... ;D ;D ;D ;D

Just kidding champ ;D

Mick

PS If its not the best pic in 2005, Dougs previous underwater pic of the big Cobia would have been. How many freezers have you bought this year Mr Hanning?
