View Full Version : Finally a Day off!
What a awesome day it was today. Perfect weather, good mates and fish. It doesnt happen very often but when todays clients had to cancel at the last minute I was very disapointed ;), NOT.
As luck would have it one of my supporters-sponsors, Mark Suttle (NSW boss-Honda Marine) stayed the night and it didnt take him and my deckie Gabe long to say 'yes' to coming for a fish.
We were greeted with dead flat seas, warm water and plenty of live bait (slimies). The perfect ingrediance for a great day.
Mark hasnt done a lot of offshore fishing so it was great to see him hook into some pelagics.
We all had a great morning slow trolling livies around our local reef at Julian Rocks, near Brunswick.
With a great mix of spanish, spot mackerel, yellowtail kingfish and cobia we had our required GoodFriday feed and headed home about 11am.
Lets hope this weekend weather holds so everyone can have a crack at the pelagics. Some mates fished out wide with only about a knot of current and also got some great pearlies and snapper .
Cheers
Gabe- great spottie
Mark "Hightower" and his first Cobia.
And I actually got to have a fish ;D

Hey Mono,
Some nice fish there mate....Glad to see you still have some mackerel around. Looks like I was a week to early with my trip..maybe those bigger seas put the mackerel off last weekend....
Gee the conditions do look great, especially when you compare them against last sunday...

what a spectical - red shorts, red & white floral shorts, red & white upholstery trim, red blood on white boat - looks more like a FOUREX commercial - the sponsors love it - all it needs is a red lure hanging out :o
MalM
seriously though - what trolling depths & how did you control that please?
Hi, yeh I know the new uniform is abit much but my wife (she runs the business-paper work ect) didnt really give me much choice! Its better than the white shorts she tried to get us to wear! The shorts and shirts are made of Hemp material (Not the smokin stuff) and I must admit is very comfortable and blood washes out easy.
And yes I do promote our sponsors-supporters as much as I can, they help me and I try help them.
Having said that, I'm extremely lucky because those that sponsor me and my vessel are products that I have used and endorsed well before the deals were offered. Over the years I have refused and even turned down offers to promote some products that I didn't like or didnt work. I think it is important to beleive in the product you endorse and not bend the truth just for the dollar.
As I said, I am very lucky to be able to promote products that I think are top of the line and actually use them because I feel they are the best.
As for the trolling. The live baits were slimies and 90% of the fish caught that day were caught on a Scotties (Not a sponsor) Downrigger. Depth of reef was 45ft to 95ft. I trolled the baits that day at about midwater. (where most of the fish were showing on the sounder). The exception were the cobia with swam up to the boat while we were trolling!
Cheers and have a great Easter.
