fished the 9 mile off Tweed on Thursday. Needed a day off and what a great day. There were some wahoo about. I tried trolling lures but wasn't doing much good and there were a few others trolling lures also. Saw one boat get a double hook up, but didn't see any others hooked up. Plenty of small frigate mackerel, mack tuna and bonito around so I got a few casting lures and put them out live. Thanks to Roderick for the tip! Didn't last long. First one had me buried in the reef quick smart. Had a few others cut up or pulled off without hooking up before I finally managed to hook up and about 15 minutes later gaffed my first wahoo. Great fight on 8 kg gear. Very satisfying getting it solo out of my own boat also. Later on I hooked two more but lost them pretty quick to bite offs. Went 15.0 kg on scales at the anglers warehouse. Alot of fun and I am planning to go back soon.

another of the fish and the size of bait used. This one was hit but didn't hook up. If you look closely you can see where the side of the head was sheared.

Jeremy

Really glad it worked out for you mate, sorry I couldnt chat yesterday was in the seaway trying to fish the easter bream comp with a zillion boats going in all directions. Thats a good fish on light gear in amongst all those boats.

Well Done

Crestcutter,

the rig was two 6/0 big gun hooks with 58 lb single strand wire. A better rig is to use a treble as the second/stinger hook, but all the rigs I had in this style were too short. I rigged the tuna with the top hook through the top lip and the second about 2/3 of the way back. They were slow trolled around the area I caught them.

Cheers Jeremy, thanks for the info mate, i want to get this downrigger of mine down pat , pardon the pun, but didn't or haven't really any knowledge of how to rig livies or dead baits for trolling.

Thanks again.
