View Full Version : Hamilton island 12th July 2006-big GT

Fished on charter on hamilton Island for 4 hour trip. 10 mins trolling and 1st lure got hit and missed and then bang and I was onto this beast. 40 mins to land on 15kg gear. Talk about a tough fight around a big bommie. Estimated by crew at 30kg.

IBBO I used the watersports centre charter, about a 7mtr plate. The other charter is renegade which looks good but he was off sick for week. $100 a heads for 4 hrs on watersports centre. Original only 5 going but at last minute they filled it to 12 people. I had to play it smart to ensure i was near a rod for 1st strike.....

HiYo I presume the by now but comment is about the hurt it put on my body. 3 days later my left forearm still aches and still hurts to make a fist and yeah my lower back feels like it got hit with a baseball bat. Bloody hard work out but worth every painful minute.
24kg gear would have knocked it over quicker but on 15kg it taught me a lot about fighting a big fish.

Nice fish....I was just up that way and got clobbered by some big GT's fishing landbased. :(
Did get some big queenies though.
