My first post for a while, any how we left Scarborough 4:30am for the run out to spots X and X. Previously unknown to many ;). The run out was good, took aprox 1hr, swell was up a bit and a washing machine type conditions, the TABS handled it easy. Dropped the first baits down and hooked up on under size and legal pearlies. This went on for a while, using pillies and what I thought was squid thats gone off, smelt rotton and the fish seem to think so to.
First major hook up was a monster, Mark my offsider had never felt anything pull like this before. He is from Melbourne and mainly caught K.G. whiting, end result was this Cobia which measured 95cm, that we found out back at the ramp as DPI were measuring captures of reef species??. Next major hook up was a huge, I was pouring a cup of coffee and glanced over to see the rod tip nearly touching the water, managed to get hold of it and the fight was on, I could feel the head shaking but was unsure of the call. After 15 minutes we had colour and a double hook up. A snodger of a Pearly top hook and Yellow tail king on the bottom.
Spot X now resembled a car park and the fish were now suffering lockjaw, so we moved on to find some more interesting marks for future reference.
We finally decided that was enough an headed home at about 12 noon.
