Finally decided to take a run out to the hards yesterday. Left Mooloolabah around 1:00pm arrived at our first spot and anchored up around 2:45. Run out was excellent, semi-glassed out with a few nice swells I used to practice some launching
Anyway berley went down half an hour later the mates young bloke pulls the first fish in. A legal parrot, I think we could of ended the trip right their and he would of been happy.
Slow action so we decided to move closer to the pinnacles we were trying to pull fish off as their was very little current and no wind. Just before dusk things started to look better, snapper ranging from 3-5 kg started coming aboard, they weren't massive but still enough to make the young fella grunt and groan. The action was definately slower than our last trip out but we still had a hell of a lot of fun.
Wind picked up to about 14 knots so we decided to pull the pin at around 8:50pm for a 2hr 30 min run home.
No seasickness from me or the young fella. Kwels, ginger tablets and mints did the trick.
Pics tell the story.
Anyone have an approx mark for top end of the hards as I dont know if i fished northern mid or southern part?
I just want to say thanks to seapup for helping me out with the finer points of anchoring and giving me some idea of where the hards are
I also want to thank Foggy for his info on plastics and right times to fish.
There is alot of helpful people on these chat boards and I hope this gives something back.
Final count
11 snapper
2 pearlies
2 parrot
Cant wait for next time
