I had a last minute offer this week for a trip to D.I. in a mates boat. I love this area, but due to shocking beach conitions I have not been able to take my boat up since Febuary last year, opting like a lot of other people fishing the Barwons instead.
On the drive up the beach conditions are still pretty ordinary, with us finding the sand very powdery either side Elisha track. Conditions where average with 15 knots of breeze and about 0.7m of chop. Dropped first line in the water about 3.30pm. First fish on board was a mac tuna around the 5kg.which we kept for bait, ended up catching about a dozen of these guys over the evenings and letting the rest go. Deanos ''floater'' was the first rod to go off with a decent result a Snapper at around 6-7kilos.We all then changed our floaters to a pilly and no weight. The next couple of hours were pretty full on with many good Snapper hitting the esky. While we ended up with our bag limit of Snaps,1 Moses and 6 Pearlys, there was really not much in the way of other species of fish. Not that I complaining!
The great thing about D.I. is you don't have to go too far from shore to find some quality fish. I have included some photos of how the beach conditions have changed over last 18 months.
Cheers Troy.
