Hiya peoples, looking at going on my honeymoon at the end of april and was wondering what would be the best spot for fishing of the above mentioned places. Also, i have heard that it can be quite expensive to eat and drink (in some quantity), at the resorts of these places. Has anyone been there and can give us any info on the fishing and the cost of socialising in the area.

cheers

Hi Bowie,

Did a Low budget Fishing trip to Fiji back in the mid 90's. Stayed in a couple of the lower priced resorts along the Coral Coast (Western side of the main Island). I went with a couple of Surfie mates which was good for cost sharing. I was not able to afford to go out on any expensive Charters so I didn't see the best Fishing that Fiji had to offer. Payed the locals to take us out trolling the Reef edges and chasing birds that were diving on bait schools. All up we caught a few small Tuna and the odd Trevally, but overall it was a bit disapointing. If you can get a boat to take you out around the Island of Kandavu then that could be a whole new ball game. It's a fair distance south west of Suva.
If you stay at the "top shelf" resorts you better take plenty of cash for food and drinks. If you do it on the cheap, go to the supermarket and get your supplies and cook in your room. I think a carton of beer is similar to Aussie prices, so load that into your fridge at the resort. Fiji Bitter is the local drop, used to be made by Carlton so It's a bit like V.B.

Have a great honeymoon where ever you decide to go.

Cheers
