Hi guys,
I'm currently looking for some rayskin for a traditional restoration of a japanese sword. I'v been looking for a while around the commercial leather shops and have found nothing. I think my only choice may be to buy some from a fishing place. Does anyone have an idea where I can find some rayskin approx 16cm x 33cm [possibly smaller would do]. I would buy some off someone if anyone has any, though they have to be good quality with large nodes =).
Please contact me at
gl8cier@hotmail.com
if you have any or know where I can get some .
BTW I live in SA

Andy I think your chances are fairly remote in terms of being able to buy it off the shelf.

More likely that you would need to approach a fishing processer, ask them to skin one for you and then have it taken to a tanner for the rest.

Thanks Master :),
I could actually get some from america for about $40 [pretty bad quality though]
I'm not really that knowledgeable about this sort of stuff, do you recon doing what you mentioned would cost that much?
Thanks
Andy
