A huge barra was caught in the fitzroy river on the weekend. It was measured then released. i saw the pics at the tackle shop.

Fish was estimated to be between 60 and 80lbs

it was so round at the stomach you'd have trouble hugging it and touching hands.

And most drive straight on past the place thinking that the "gulf" is the in thing where to catch barra ::) but maybe it's more a case of "well we're going to the GULF", why "gee I don't know ??? but doesn't everybody go to the gulf" ??? it's the thing to do isn't it :P.

But it's also interesting that the Fitzroy has one of the only 2 barrages in Australia which might say something against those dam thingies ;D

Some will say (and they are right) it was a certain mayor of Rocky who defied all state & commonwealth odds (and blocked doors) and built it anyway regardless. One of those rare public (even usefull) utilities.

Cheers, Kerry.

A fish kill due to water quality early this year in the middle of Townsville sawthe biggest fish measure 1.8 metres. A shame in hindsight that it was not preserved. A 1.3 metre fish from the same hole a few weeks earlier went 35KG.
