A few mates and I are going fishing up at Bundaberg off the close in reefs, mainly the artificial reef. I have never fished here and was wondering if anybody knows the reef and could help us out on how and what we should be fishing for?
Your help appreciated.

Lachie,
mate there isa great book called fishing the bundaberg region.it fairley cover the Bundy area quite well.
also there will be a fishing bundy site comming on line soon through Aus-Fish.
The Woodgate Artifical Reef.
This reef is aound 1 nautical mile from the the Beach at woodgate, you can see the marked bouys that depict the start and finish of the reef clearly from the baech.
the adverage depth is around 8 - 10 meters.

this reef has a name for itself around theis time of the year for good catches of Mackerel. Spanish and spottie being the main species.
also at this time of the year Golden trevally and Tailor are around in numbers. as well as the odd Cobia.
fishing the bottom with good frsh bait should see the usual run of reef dwellers such as, sweetlip- red emperor - Parrot - cod and the next coral trout taken form this reef of pipes- car bodies - tyer stacks won't be the first.

sitting in 15 -17meters of water just 3 nautical miles off the mouth of the Elliott River.the "Arty" is aprox 800m X 400 m in size, is a showpice to the dedication of the members of the local groupe of people that have helped develop this reef into the sucess it is today.
the "building" of the structure began 13 years ago and today boasts aprox 1000 tonnes of material.
