I am about to go out and buy some soft plastics but i am wondering how long it takes to learn how to cast and retreive them and can the be seen at night by the fish ?

they are really easy to use.

if your after flathead get the Twister with twin tails in a bright red sparkles colour.

to set them up. i use a 1/0 Red Mustard hook with small ball type sinker... connect the hook to the line like you do usually, then put the sinker on the line, leave about 35cm's of line to a swivel. and thats that.
but note, you have the sinker between the swivel and the hook.

to put them on is just like a blood worm, feed them on so all that is hanging from the hook are the 2 tails.

have fun

forgot to add how you cast them.

simple cast them out into the current so they can drift down with the current.

there are numerous ways of winding them in. a good way though is to jig it.

simple lift the rod tip up 30 - 50 cm's. drop the tip down, and wind in the loose line. continue this.

you can also wind it in slowly along the bottom, and also in a zig-zag motion.

if you've just started with soft plastics, your best bet would be to go to your nerest tackle store and look for the bags and buckets of soft plastics. these are in several catagories depending on what u want to fish for. included are instructions on tieing and retreiving the plastics.

enjoy.

once you catch your first fish you'll be hooked on them.
