Hi Guys,
Just new to the area and is interested in what the local fishing is like. Just wondering if there is anyone out there that may know of a few spots that maybe worth trying to start with and what sort of bait is best used.

Fishing around Townsville is very good.
Land Based,
Rock Pool or Jetty at the Strand. This time of year use Pilchards.
Boat,
Any local Creek will produce a good feed of Fish and crabs.
Go to Protackle on ross River Road and pick a few of the local mud maps they provide. The staff there are very friendly.
Have a look at a few of the local fishing clubs. We joined the Townsville Sportfishing Club 6 years ago when we moved here. We have made good friends and learnt alot about fishing. http://www.townsvillesportfishing.org/
If you need any more info, drop me a line,
Barry
