Hi I always use Blockout and it works
but you will have to follow the instructions as you have to reaply it .
If you want to stay out in the sun for a long time.
Dont wait untill all ellis fails Read instrustions first .
And put it on before you goin to the sun, Not after you feel it burnning you ...
Happy Days

Hi Brett,
Have you tried the "gel" type sunscreen's. They are an alcohol based gel and do not dry oily or sticky. (Could probably drink it at a pinch ;D ;D)
I have found the gel sunscreens pretty good. No real difference between brands as far as I can see.
Cheers

Bannana Boat Suncreen is really good stuff & Faulding brand zinc cream for the bits that stick out. Faulding zinc is the only zinc that doesn't bead (form into little lumps or crack up)with sweat & water. I used to paint my whole face with the stuff in my surfing days, you'd surf all day without losing it & ending up like a beetroot.

Hi B.F. Palmolive UV Tripleguard 30+
told by a skin specialist , after Plastic surgeons had 3 goes at repairing my dial from sunspot, my missus reckons i only went in for a face lift, but seriously 30+ is the only stuff to us.or they will soon call you the Crispy-Wrinkled Big Fella. :( ;D

I got myself a vietnam palm hat at the markets and I can tell you they are light and give good shade to even the meatiest of heads , even my big boof head . Cost five bucks and a good investment , only need to use a bit of cloth and tie it on so it dosen t
come off when under way . Get some queer looks but , spose most people havent seen a six foot eight asian to much .

Hi Guys,

I hate the oily feel and have a real dislike to get it near any bait or lure, however I must admit that in my later years I have been suffering the effects of the sun more and more. Although I now cover up with a trendy Columbia shirt and NAFA hat, long lightweight trousers my hands and face still bear the brunt of an excursion to the water, so under pressure from the fairer sex (aka she who must be obeyed) I begrudgingly slap on either bannana boat 30+ or hamiltons 30+ (the hamiltons recommended by a skin cancer specialist my father see's).

I find it hard in our climate (SE Queensland) to tell wheather they are greasy or not as by the time u get a bit of a sweat up its hard to tell the difference between the sunscreen and normal sweat and skin oil. The only thing I know is if I dont use it I pay for the damage straight away, let alone what long term damage is done (although I think its too late for me). :( :(

I love the straw hats, light and airy and that price is great, just wish the damn things wouldn't try to strangle you when you open up the throttle ;D ;D

This might be the first season I'll try the fingerless gloves to cover the back of your hands, as I still find that they get burnt as I am always putting my hands into the water and washing off the sunscreen.

I would be happy to hear about any sunscreen / insect replants that are any good as I am like a magnet for sandfly's and mozzies.

Landen Brook, black tube. SPF 23+ & a moisturiser. Goes on cooool as & it don't make you feel like you've just jumped into a tub of vasolene. Also it don't sting heck out of your eyes when you start sweatin.

Also the Landen Brook yellow tube that's SPF 30+ & has aloe vera, but its a bit thicker & greasier.

Hi Glen.

For mossies and sandflies you just can't go past Bushmans. It comes in tubes of gel and aerosol (not as strong as the gel type).

It's not cheap but if you suffer from sandfly bites like I do then virtually nothing is too dear if it's effective.

The gel comes in 2 types both of which are 80% DEET. One is called Bushmans Ultra and the other is Bushmans Plus. The latter has sunscreen built in and from experience it's effects wear off slightly more quickly than than the Ultra product. Both are water resistant (pretty good at that too).

The aerosol has a sunscreen built in and from memory is not as concentrated in DEET as the gel.

I have not had any problem skin wise using Bushmans but i would recommend trying it on a small piece of skin first just in case.

I can attest to it's effectiveness. I have spent up to 5 days at the Pin during summer and had only one sandfly get through. It's worth every cent I paid for it.

You can find it at chemists and tackle stores - check around as price can vary greatly from one place to another. You shouldn't have to pay more than $10 for a 75g tube - sounds a lot but it's worth it.

Regards,

Michael

PS: I am in no way connected with Bushmans other than as a VERY satisfied user of the product.

Hi Glen,
I wear a pair of those gloves you were talking about.
Mate they are the ducks nuts.
I personally couldn't speak highly enough of them. Even started to wear them when driving long distances. Do yourself a favour and grab a pair. Sure beats the hell out of getting skin cancers chopped out.
Cheers

Hey Brian,

I see you have the NBSFC addy on your footer, I'm thinking of rejoining a club after being out of the club/ANSA scene for bout ten years, is the club any good or should I just front up some time and check it out for myself.

What sort of fishing do they mainly focus on?

Glen.

Mate what can i say its a great club ;D.

As i say to anyone that is interested in joining come along and meet everyone if you like what we do then you can become a member.

As i see it everyone is an individual and is looking for some paticular thing in a club, maybe we have that or maybe not.

There is no pressure to join so please come to a meeting and meet the members you will be made most welcome.

There is a meeting this friday night at the Pine Hills Sports Complex Jinker Track Everton Hills. There will be a display and demonstration on (knife sharpening etc etc) that night so will be a social evening. Starts at 7.30 although i will be there around 6.30 so i can have a feed.

If you are interested give me a call on 33006155

As for what we do well we mainly work the estuaries and freshwater with a few that venture offshore. As for fishing styles well again thats a choice by the angler although majority use lures and fly.

We are not a record hunting club we just like to fish and have fun, although there is all the ANSA stuff there for the anglers whom want to claim records.

The main priority of our club is to keep the politics LOW as possible and work on the fun and social so people can relax and just have fun.
