Just heard that a big fish kill has occurred in the Macintyre river in Inverell.

The local radio reported that water was released from the local water storage because it was choked with blue/green algae. Unfortunately the water had no oxygen and was toxic - so it has killed all marine life for many kms downstream.

Spoke to a friend this morning who said the banks of the river in town are lined with dead cod and golden perch (which are the product of years of stocking by locals).

RIP

Not only do dams devestate the habitat for fish in our rivers, they also become a big polluted reservoir of toxic sludge from time to time. When you here the greenies going on about dams, remember the fish. Sure we need drinking water, but you really have to look closely at the costs and benefits in building dams for agriculture.
