Fishing hot spots to be targeted over ANZAC day long weekend

The Director of NSW Fisheries, Steve Dunn, today reminded anglers to ensure they know the fishing rules and have a NSW recreational fishing licence over the Anzac Day long weekend (Friday, April 25 – Sunday, April 27).

Mr Dunn said the three-day long weekend is always a popular fishing time and fisheries officers will be checking licences, illegal fishing activities and charter fishing boat operators.

“Fisheries officers will be out and about all over NSW with a focus on offshore waters. In particular, this includes areas of high fishing activity between Terrigal on the Central Coast and Stanwell Park near Wollongong.

“The operations will provide an opportunity for our officers to discuss fishing issues with anglers and advise them on aspects of rules.”

Mr Dunn said fisheries officers will also be checking to ensure anglers comply with size and bag limits along with the compliance by charter fishing boats.

He reminded anglers to ensure they hold and carry a current NSW recreational fishing licence while fishing over the Anzac Day long weekend.

“Four licence types are available: $5 for three days, $10 for one month, $25 for one year and $70 for three years.

“They are available from most bait and tackle stores, at the NSW Fisheries website, over the phone by calling 1300 369 365 and at Shell Touch machines at Shell service stations.”

“People found without a recreational fishing licence can be issued with on the spot penalties of $200.”
