I heard a story a while back about a bloke who had a way of catching Moreton Bay Bugs as a recreational fisher. I was wondering if anyone knew how it was possible to catch the tasty little blighters. ???

I'm guessing some sort of shell dredge must be used but have never seen one and have no idea how to make it or use it.

Any ideas / tips would be accepted most gratefully. ;)

Cheers,
Slothman

Thanks for the tip on the old crab pots, but the fishing regulations give dimensions for a shell dredge.

I was hoping someone could shed some light on them.

anyone??? ???

probably better off contacting dpi i find their page a bit confusing on bugs.
i.e: The following species are protected throughout Queensland and are therefore prohibited from being in anyone's possession without a permit:
Bugs Moreton Bay (egg bearing females)
any other sea bugs (This is under recreational sizes and limits)

http://www.dpi.qld.gov.au/fishweb/11416.html#limits

I read the above as that the only bugs you are allowed to keep are male Moreton Bay bugs or Female Moreton Bay bugs NOT carrying eggs.
