Heya fellas, I'm new 2 this but i think i ge what im ment to do. Any way ive caught heaps of types of fish but I've never really mastered jewfish. Has anyone got any tips on how to hook them and what tackle and bait to use.
Cheers,
Jackash. [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

you fishing from a boat or shore jack? I don't specialise in jew but like to chase soapies from time to time, just a 4/0 hook, fresh whole squid, no weight cast up current does the trick for me if they are around. There are a few guys on the board that chases em tho.
cheers

live bait, live bait, live bait, live bait
fresh bait, fresh bait, fresh bait, fresh bait
big bait, big bait, big bait, big bait
slack water, slack water, slack water, slack water
patience, patience, patience, patience
quiet, shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

it'll happen

ps i favour big live mullet/tailor, use a snooded 10/0 Gamakasu to a 5/0 Gamakasu at the tail, very little weight, long 40lb jinkai traces. Increase your chances by fishing areas where channels narrow or bend & I burley to attract bait fish rather than the jew itself. Be prepared for long boring periods but when they appear LOOKOUT. I've only caught up to 10kg so I'm no monster expert but I'm getting more consistent, a 10/0 hook has heaps of room to spare in a 5kg jew (thats about 5kg in the picture - a nice schoolie/soapy) don't be afraid of big hooks & baits but it must be fresh.
