A company proposing a fish farm in Brisbane's Moreton Bay has labelled conservationists opposing the development as hypocrites.
The Queensland Conservation Council says the State Government should refuse Sunaqua's submission because the facility would interfere with an emergency nuclear anchorage point.
But Sunaqua director Julian Amos says he is astonished environmentalists seem unconcerned with the fact that ships in the emergency zone may leak radioactive waste.
He says the farm could be moved to avoid contamination and prevent potential problems in the zone.
"There is no conflict between the fish farm being sited in that area and the emergency quarantine zone," Dr Amos said.
"The cages can not only be sited outside the quarantine zone but, at very short notice, they can be moved further away."
