Hi, looking to head up north and need to know what would be a good outfit for Barra. Know nothing about them . Most of my fishing is in inland rivers with a few trips to Swains. Hope somone can give me some advice as I have read so many conflicting articles on rods, reel types, line size etc etc that I am overloaded. Can I get something for around $200 or need to spend more?

You may need to spend more. I would recomend a Ambassador 6500C3 baitcaster or similar 6500 model, It casts lures extremly well but has enough line capacity to be used for live baiting and is strong reel, I only use ambassador reels, I don't treat them well and they last. I have caught hammerhead shark over a metre long on my 6500c3. Get the line loaded with 20 - 30lb braid or spiderwire, if like a bit of stretch in your line just add some mono leader to the end.

In regard to a rod, You should spend around $100.00 and look for something in the 6kg range.
