try cable rick, works out cheaper when you look at line rental and phone calls, beware some carriers advertise their speed 800, but don't tell you its capped at 480, i can get up to 860 k on optus cable ;D however powerup have a good name for dialup, still the same you need to read between the lines as to when they will cut you off when on dialup.
cheers

often it's not the isp's fault, if you have an inbuilt mode try re-installing it every now and then, does the trick.

Rick,

Optus Cable works for me.

If you stick with Optus you may be able to keep your email addresses.

Dialup is so last 20th century ;D

I run an internet business and had to go from 1500K/512K broadband back to dialup..

There is no comparison, except to say I use Iprimus Dialup and its very good. You get 4 or 5 hrs per session for $19.95/mth

Rick I would echo the sentiment on broadband, you will wonder why you didn't get it long ago.

One thing to remember though is the faster conection makes you a little more suseptable to the script kiddies. I would recomend you get a firewall if you don't have one already. Zonealarm is free.

CMC I would cry if I had to go back to dialup, my sites are graphics intensive and the wait time on dialup is excruciating ::)

We haven't looked back since changing over to Optus Cable. Found though the 550kb download a waste of time and went straight to the 3GB which seems good for our use, though we have been anxiously waiting for the beginning of the next month a couple of times.
One thing to avoid at all costs is any scheme that starts charging for traffic over the download limit. Can get very expensive!

I am with dodo dialup. Have never had any probs with disconnect. $9.95 a month with 300 download and unlimited hours however regardless of download never more that $23.95 month.

I am happy with it.

Predator,

I hate to state the obvious, but to do 3 gig in 3 weeks is doing a hell of a lot of downloading or a heap of uploading.

To do 3 gig in 3 weeks just by browsing, someone would have to be on the thing 24hours a day surfing non stop & even then I doubt you would get to 3 gig.

apparently gaming takes a lot of the downloading, according to Optus, which my son and daughter do all the time....BUT.... my son could be downloading on his computer, but I just cant catch him at it.. :-/..
Otherwise I have no complaints about the service. If you dont have 17yr old kids go the optus 3gb.

I,m looking at adsl, because I dont think I need the speed of cable, where 512/128 will suffice with unlimited downloads....

Hehe - I work for an ISP and just got a nearly free unlimited 512/128 connection at home - I have had the service for nine days and have downloaded 22GB...

It wont last - but you can sure push some bytes down broadband

Cheers
Steve.

Hey Predator - I think you might be forgetting all that porn you're downloading. Those hi-res images take up some space!
