can fish grow new scales

caught a good jack on the weekend and l am currently converting him to fresh water for my tank , in the capture he lost some scales , l know the scales protect the fish from infection so l was just wondering can fish grow new scales

Scientists remove a scale to determine age of a fish, they say it has no long term affect on them, guess while acclimatizing the fish to fresh, you will have to watch for infection in that area. hope this helps
