Conservationists have been urging the Queensland Government to do more to protect Moreton Bay and its catchments.
Queensland Conservation Council spokesman Simon Baltais says a lot has been achieved by upgrading sewerage plants and putting in storm water management.
But he says the long-term answer includes restricting unsustainable industries and vegetation clearing.
"We're clearing vegetation that does all this work for nothing and yet we're willing to contribute millions of dollars for infrastructure that will have to be maintained forever," Mr Baltais said.
"So we'll be forever contributing maintenance costs to these facilities.
"Vegetation does that for nothing, yet we're clearing it at a great rate of knots."
