Tarpon. How big in OZ?

A bloke I know says he caught a Tarpon just north of Mackay last weekend weighing 11.2kg.
I have caught a heap under 600 long in the Northern Territory and got a monster at about 700 long a couple of weeks ago in Mackay harbour. But 11.2 kg is huge.

What size do we get them here?

biggest ive caught them in the local river mouth at night was 90cm... average tho around 70 to 80cm.. but 11kg.. thats a bloody big tarpon!

i like the size they get them on the flats over seas.... those things are monsters.

There was a 200lb one on the cover of one of our local mags a couple of years ago. The fish was caught in Florida on a fly I think.

i got my first tarpon last night.. it was a whopping 30cms!!!!! :o ::) ;D

yea, the tarpon in florida are pretty big, and they are actively caught from 90lb to 200lb.. mostly on fly but also lures.. there are 2 species, we get the smaller one unfortunately.. bloody yanks

What do you do with a Tarpon other than throw it back, has anyone ever eaten one.

you can smoke them.. that gives them some taste.. but they are just full of bones.. and pretty much taste like sh!t
