So whats the go with small whiting for live bait ?

I read about it ... But it is legal ?

In that, is it legal to use a non legal size whiting for live bait ?

its not legal to posess anyfish for any reason that is under its size limit

Winter Whiting " I think" has no size limit...

But they are not worth keeping under 25cm anyway

That is correct. You can use any fish for bait as long as it is within the legal take and possession limits . If you have read that someone suggests to use a whiting as bait under 23mm in Queensland than they would be referring to winter whiting.

how do you tell the difference between winter and summer whiting ?

I believe the 'summer' whiting have yellow pectoral fins and are generally quite silver all the way through their body. 'Winter' whiting are generally a lot smaller and darker in their colour with blackish/dark splotches though them. They don't have any yellow fins either. Generally, they are the uglier of the two types! There are no bag or size limits to winter whiting as opposed to summer whiting where it is 23cm. Is that right? Personally, I like to keep my whiting closer to the 30cm mark for a sweet feed. I know flathead love a good feed of winter whiting though!
