They put a sand pumping jetty on Fingal side of the Tweed river as a sand by-pass strategy. Since then the build up of sand throught the southern Gold Coast has increased markedly, forming what surfers are calling a 'superbank'. On a good day when the swell is large enough and coming from the right direction its possible to catch a wave from Snapper Rocks through to Cooloongatta/Kirra. Local beach goers aren't happy about it though, Rainbow Bay no longer exists.

I'd say so.. the main aim for the project was to "establish and maintain a clear navigation channel at the entrance to the Tweed River."
