Thursday until midnight: NE winds 10/15 knots this evening with seas to 0.9 metres in the western bay. S/SE winds 10/15 knots overnight with 0.9 metre seas in the western bay. SE winds 15 knots tomorrow with 1 metre seas in the westernbay. A possible shower or thunderstorm this evening.

Friday: SE winds 15/20 knots. Highest seas to 1.2 metres. Isolated showers.

Saturday: SE winds 10/15 knots.
Sunday: SE winds increasing to 20/30 knots.

OK The highlighted bit is refering to Friday, right ?, Than how come underneath it says. Friday SE Winds 15/20 knots ?

That to me, is 2 different forecasts ?

Who do I contact to get the right info or to explain this to the ' laymen " ?

Phill ???

Forecast 15 knots, 1 metre seas basically equates to possible wind speeds of 21 knots and 2 metre seas and similar 15/20 knots 1.2 m seas around 21/28 knots with up to 2.4 metre seas.

So could be downright awfull in a little boat.

Cheers, Kerry.

Phill,

on one of the boards some kind member put this site up:

http://www.buoyweather.com/wxnav.jsp?region=AS&program=Maps

it works pretty well round Jervis Bay. Used in conjunction with the forecast and a good look around, I find it pretty good. Also gives you an idea of what might happen over the next few days.
Just pick the 'virtual buoy' nearest to where you operate.

(use Edit - Copy - Paste to stick it into the address/URL bar up the top to save a bit of typing.)

2 weeks ago I was fishing 12 Km off coast--weather report via weatherfax (VMR) saidwindspeed 5 -10 FROM S/SE.
From my assumption the wind was from the n/ne at about 10-15knots . Maybe my compass/gps and eyesight are all wrong.
Sure like to know.

Yours was a "Nowcast", the other a "Forecast", that being a difference of time. Your Nowcast was for where you were, maybe somewhere else in the forecast area things might have been different or as forecast but forecats are generalizations and many different things can affect wind through out a forecast area especially wind conditions as coastal waters forecast are from the coast out to 60nm.

Was there anymore in that forecast as generally in many areas a 5/10 knot S/SE will swing N/NE by mid morning/day and become a sea breeze, with the closer one is to the coast the stronger the wind will be. At 12km you could be under the influence of the seabreeze, but if you had gone out another 12 km out to sea the wind might have been S/SE and 50km off the coast it might have glassed out?

Cheers, Kerry.
