View Full Version : Big Catch (2 arrested)

01-04-2004, 06:38 PM
Received this info late tonight from a ABC source Steve Buggs.
Two men have been arrested Wednesday afternoon (after a tip off) releasing some 2000 Carp Fingerlings into the Logan River at Skinners Park.
The Fisheries Officers arrived only to find the Fingerlings had already been released. But the two men were apprehended in the carpark with holding tanks in their vehicle.
Quick thinking by a well know Logan River Fisherman, who was prawning at the time, called on the help of 3 logan river prawn trawlers, who dragged the river from the Albert Junction back to Skinners Park Ramp.
Two runs successfully netted all but a estimated 30 of the released fingerlings, as carp have a tendenancy to swim in big schools when disorientated, which helped the situation.
The old logan fisherman, stated that the remaining fingerlings, wouldnt survive more the 48 hours in the system, due to the huge catfish population.
The two men arressted Fred Kliese and Phill Woods, will appear in the magistrates court tomorrow at 12.00, and could face fines of $20,000 each or possible jail.
The reasons they released these vermin into the Logan, was not explained, but their appearance tomorrow should bring this to light.
Was also supplied a photo of the carp schooling around the Skinners Park ramp.

It was lucky I could get the local trawler operators there so quickly.

There have been no prawns around so they weren't working at the time.

here`s the real culprit......

This bloke was seen running away from Skinners ramp just after a mad prawner beached his boat and took out a fish donger.
