Friday 5th. Inspection of the vessel revealed it was reasonably secure and best left alone in winds of some 40 knots from the south east. Further contact with the owner revealed that it had come to no harm. So what went wrong in March and April with quite a significant increase in calls for assistance?

Same old thing – poor maintenance on outboard motors ranging from old beasts to brand new off the shelf! Combined with an obvious lack of knot tying skills insofar as securing tenders and dingies, the same old “…….the owner had no marine radios, could not use, did not know etc………”

We give up on this one! If any of the boats in question had encountered a serious problem or injury, they would have been in all sorts of trouble! And remember of course the fact that the other eight boats around them don’t know how to use radios CORRECTLY #anyway! i.e. 10% are full bottle!

We see these dreadful old motors get dragged down to the ramp, rusted, dirty, filthy, belching oil, fuel system a disgrace, crappy looking batteries and terminals, rattling like a tin full of ball bearings, missing, rolling etc. etc. …… and when finally started after much swearing, groaning and bashing, off they head across the Bay. No fear! Da motas running. Gee, gunna be a grate day!

Radios? What radios? You mean that old rusted, beaten up and dilapidated thing falling out of the console? Geez mate, I don’t know if it works! It was in the boat when I got it…….

Of course, if you want a real giggle, you can always ask some of the owners for a look at their most recent marine charts for the area!

And this is only from ONE Unit! Multiply that by another seven in the Bay!
