Port-Douglas based Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries officers yesterday (May 11) seized two boats and four nets for alleged unlicensed commercial fishing activities.

Queensland Boating and Fisheries Patrol (QBFP) officers with assistance from Mossman Police made the seizure this morning at Wonga Beach just north of Port Douglas.

During the operation QBFP officers found a quantity of undersized mud crabs, female crab claws and undersized fish. The crab pots had also been incorrectly marked.

The six men involved in the fishing activities may appear in Cairns Magistrates Court at a later date.

In Queensland it is an offence to take undersized fish and crabs, as well as female mud crabs and female mud crab claws.

Fisheries regulations are in place to protect and conserve the State’s fish stocks for current and future generations.
