Hi

I just want to find out if its worthwhile, and indeed legal, to fish in the brisbane river around Kangaroo Point etc.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I know of people fishing under the bridges off the footpath next to the city for Bronze whalers ...small , but they catch them there .....aside from that , i am stumped !! never tried up these strectches .
Although i am looking out over the river now and would much prefer to be down there with a line rather then up here working !

Are you sure you are working Billo?, tough job looking out the window and Internet chatting.. ;D
Just having a go , actually I am guilty too, just cant quite see the river from here, (Milton). :P
Actually there are plenty of fish in there, Mudcrabs too, not sure I would eat them though.
Sharks, catfish, mullet, Bream and Luderick around the rocks at Breaky Creek entrance. Not sure about Kangaroo Point, it's got to be good for a catfish though.. :P

Some bloody big eels at Kangaroo and *especially* under the bridges.

I got talking to a Chinese guy on Sandgate jetty when I was sharking there. He had come over from Hong Kong when it was handed back to (red) China. He owns 4 restaurants in the city and spends his time catching whalers and eels for his staff to prepare......nice guy.....he put me onto them. I was sceptical but he was right......I had a beano first time round and one whaler went about 20 kilo. I haven't been back for a while as to be honest, The best time is at night and I find the place quite threatening with the ferals that hang around the best spots.

I reckon it's the eels that bring in the whalers.....they're a top shark bait.

I've fished that brown poo drain since i was a kid, mostly dutton park area, but i have fished at south bank too- there are plenty of catfish - of at least there used to be, as well as bream, small cod and native perch, and of course, the noah's are there as well - more nasty bities in that river than youd think.

Modern Fishing magazine did a late eighties early nineties article about fishing for mulloway (jew) under the bridges in the city "Brisbane City lights" was the name of the article - very interesting and to my surprise they were catching big jew right out the front of the casino - so there is life in there after all

Yeah there are fish in there for sure... me and my little brother were only down there for probably 2 hours on Sunday and managed a good bream and 2 catfish... bit of fun on light gear.
