On the way back from the airport tonight I got to chatting to the taxi driver, and it ends up he lives on a houseboat.

Anchoured near the gateway bridge in the Bridbane river at the moment and sometimes anchours near Kangaroo Point in the city. Don't know about you guys but I find that really interesting. Being able to just pick up and move to a new location whenever you feel like it. Apparently he also has a registerd permanant mooring at Victoria point when he isn't driving a cab.

Catches a few fish off the back but doesn't put pots in that far up the river. Just a bit too sus.

Was saying how last week there were a heap of prawns around so castnetted off the back of the houseboat and got half a bucket.

Some downsides with parking and leaving his dingy tied up and public jetties, but sure sounds great for some that are not your normal 9 to 5.

Anyway, I thought it was interesting.

cheech a walk along the banks of the botanic gardens opens ones eyes with the boats that are permantly moored, plus the pots that hang off the boardwalk and most if not all with fresh bream and small jew frames, maybe we are missing something here

If it wasn't for my missus i could easily see myself living a much simpler live on a boat somewhere.

At the time marriage seemed like a good idea ;D

My missus and I have talked about building on a block of land that we have at Lamb Island, but I think the logistics of getting kids to school and having to rely on ferries would beat us; at least at this stage of our lives, mabye something for when our kids leave home.

Sure like the idea, but. Quiet, water at the back door and fishing just a cast away... ;D

It was for me.........she's the one that does the reversing down the ramp.........I'm shit at it. Maybe I could get better at it if I practiced but hey! She's the one that takes the flack when it all goes wrong ;-)

To all who dream about a live aboard life. Do it young while you can. I had the yacht & reckoned 2 more years & I was off. Went to the quack for a wheezy chest. Spent the next week flat on my back breathing oxygen & the next 18 months tripping from one specialist to the next. Result yacht & 18footer sold & sitting around unable to work at my trade. Do it young or you might miss out altogether
