SEAFOOD - Retailers toe line
An audit of Queensland seafood retailers and fishmongers had found almost total compliance with fishing laws, Primary Industries Minister Henry Palaszczuk told Parliament yesterday. He said the Queensland Boating and Fisheries Patrol inspected 216 retail outlets in 16 centres and checked on about 28, 000 fish and crabs on display in the shops visited. He said only 31 were found to be undersized, representing a compliance rate of 99.9 per cent. The patrol had issued 10 cautions and would submit three breach reports and also act on several administrative failures. "Areas where the survey found non-compliance to be higher will be targeted in future operations," Mr Palaszczuk said.
