My apologies if I haven't responded to anyone lately but have been busy with whingeing visitors. One lot who have just returned to the UK seemed to have obtained sponsorship to migrate here and the remaining lot, (My son and family) are occupying most of my time atm.

I vaguely remember in the "crust" thread, that some Ausfish members are employed in the IT field. My son is network manager for Gold Medal Travel, the biggest travel agents in the UK, managing 1500 nodes and is Cisco and Microsoft Certified. Military trained from the age of 16 he unfortunately has no Degree and his only means of migration is 6 yrs practical work in his field. Having left the Army 3 years ago, immigration will only recognise those 3 yrs as the army will not acknowledge his previous computer work as it is classified under the Official Secrets Act.

The only avenue left open to him to join me here is employment sponsorship but we seem to have been knocking on closed doors for the last 12 months. If anyone has any ideas I would welcome that. My apologies if it is inappropriate to post this here.

On a better note...We are spending the weekend at the Pin and will be camping on Crusoe, so if anyone fancies a slug of duty free feel free to drop in.

cheers

Hi Kev,

I'm in IT, although am working freelance nowadays as I sold my business and all the headaches of having over 30 employees along with it ;)

Living in Hervey Bay now I've lost track of most of the contacts I used to have in the industry, however I'll have a poke around an see what I can come up with. Sounds like your Son has strong skills, I guess the issue might be general poor performance in the IT sector since the dot com bust - however once again I'm somewhat out of the loop lately and I quite possibly could be wrong!

I just rememred something that might be usefull...

most of the larger IT recruitment agencies that I have dealt with have specialist skills in assisting people requiring immigration related employment. You might like to contact a few as they may be able to help. If the specific location is not an issue I would focus on Sydney, then Melbourne, then Brisbane in that order. This will not only provide more opportunity, but also a better pay packet so he can buy you fishing gear ;)

Kev , www.seek.com.au , create a profile , job matches will be sent via e-addy daily/weekly.

Maybe tap a few bigger ISP's on the shoulder?
Regards

Good idea Gazza.

Kev, a mate of mine owns webcentral.com.au - A large hosting ISP. Check out his website and send in an application - tell him I sent you.
