just found this in a boat magazine for anyone going to the boashow
It is a fund raiser for prostate cancer they are auctining a hains 470 breeze and you can see it at the show
you can bid on it at http://www.doitfordad.com.au
you can also print off a flyer that gives you $3 off the entry to the show and show organisers will donate $2 for every flyer the receive
So a good chance to save a few bob and help them out you never know you might just need it one day [smiley=sick2.gif]

i have talked the other half into coming to the show with me prob on the sat

How did you find that ? Are you thinking of bidding on the boat ?

I'm looking at taking one or both my boys there friday arvo/ evening. So I take it that if we all congregate around the XXXX tent we'll all get to know who we are real quick??
Seriosly, it would be great to maybe arrange a time for whoever will be there on the various days to meet up,say g'day and put a face and name together. Whats the best way to arrange this?

By the way, what happened to the 'notify of replies' link on this site? Thats how i know which threads to look at??

There's a couple of glitches in the script for that feature I think. Was possibly an issue that added to the site outage last week.
Steve may have disabled the feature until he looks into it further. He's also looking at another server upgrade to keep up with the massive growth of the site.

Went in on Wednesday with my brother inlaw. Not much there in the line of tackle. For the $16.00 per head entry plus $8.00 parking I recon you would be better off saving your money and drop in to your local tackle shop and put the $24.00 towards something you want.

If you just want to have a look at boats then it may be worth wasting a day there.

Hmmmm.reading some of the posts is suggesting that the show is a bit low on fishing gear this year! I don't need a boat, I can't afford boat accessories, so .....why would I miss for the first time in years??

Come on someone......give me a couple of really good reasons to part with my $16, and another $16 for my son, and another $whatever for drinks and munchies.....go on....I'm listening - cos I really do want to go!!

Tell me what has been worthwhile!

went today as well $ 16 to get in $ 9 parking down $25 before even seeing anything
maybe i should ask the dealer to cover my cost if i end up buying a boat
they should devide the hall into 2 sections for the have and the have not's as most boats there are well outside my price range that being upto the $25,000 mark, well there's always lotto
like others have said not much in the fishing gear range, then again was happier being there than at work, nice of the boss to still be paying me while is was looking at boats

Just got back from the boat show. I think it may just be that I have been to 4 shows in 2 years, so not necessarily any worse than previous, but perhaps just getting saturated.

I think I prefer the tinnie show as there is a lot more gadgets and fishing things rather than just boats.

Cheech
03-09-2004, 05:55 PM
Forgot to mention,,, If you are after a baitrunner, the Northside marine stand has the 3500b and 4500b for $199 and the 6500b for $215

That is really cheap.

Hey Touchy,
Check out www.southpacific.com.au
They produce affordable electric anchor winches.
I havnt fitted one to my boat yet, but am looking to soon.
They are not the most attractive things in the world, but only cost about $399 each, or $499 for the freefall one.
The expensive part then though is buying all the chain and right sized rope to suit it all.
Good luck.

Well - spent my $16 x 3 + one freebie under 12, took our ownlunch (saved a bit there) $9 parking, and whatever for a couple of coffeess and a coupple of drinkies! The reports here about not too much fishing gear worth looking at is about right - this is the first time in years I'ved come out of the boat show without any gear!!!! (wife bought one of those knofe sharpener things from the 'demtel ' look alike!!

Got my money's worth my going to Troy Dixon's lecture on catching BIG nobbies, and thoroughly enjoyed meeting up with the likes of webby (will pm you re our chat too mate!) Was also great to catch up woith a couple of other mates from the fishing 'industry'! Bill, Brad, and the others - great to catch up and yarn again!!
Best of all thougjh, for me, was to have a day with the wife and my 2 boys out together just being around the stuff we all love!! Boats (most we can't ever afford, but hey!!) accessories, and fishing gear.

Yup, now I remember what the boat show is all about - just being around this stuff with people who love it too!!

If that's good enough for anyone else - GO!!!!

Me and the deckie went in today for a look around.

I wanted to get there at 11:15 for the luring bream by Tim the Bream and his brother and of course we got there at half past and headed in but Gary Howard was still talking outboards so we sat there and watched that then saw the bream boys. VERY interesting information. We did a bit more walking around but a huge line to get into the riviera... piss off i'll never own one so why bother. Had a feed.. there should be something criminal about having to pay $13 for a burger, coke and chips. Anyway back to watch the end of the flares talk then on to seeing the talk on Hervey Bay... also VERY interesting.

As was mentioned though... bugger all in the way of tackle, and not many specials on boats either. Still it was a good day all round.

Yeh, I always get disappointed at the lack of "unusual stuff" that we boaties love to buy for no reason whatsoever. Obvious lack of thse small stalls and the fishing gear and stuff on sale was a real disappointment. Could do better at BigW.
Only thing I bought was the new fibre glass restorer pack ($100) but geeeez, does it work brilliantly! Was easy to apply and comes up as new. Worth every cent of the cost and have enough left over for a touchup job in another twelve months.
No doubt the ginormous cost of a stand there deters the smaller dealers. $55,000 for some of the boat stands and $5,000 for the smaller ones. Give me the Ekka back I reckon!

Heath
07-09-2004, 04:50 AM
If that indeed is the cost of a stand, that is rediculous. In my mind there are 2 ways of thinking about the cost as far as the retailers are concerned. On one hand I think, well no wonder they aren't offering any good specials if they have to recoup that sort of money. But on the other hand they must be doing alright out of it otherwise the show wouldn't be booked solid for months in advance......

Dunno what to make of that one.

Last time I went was a investigative mission for the new boat. Save me driving around the country side looking at boats. They were all at the hall, so I could see them all & gain some good ideas and listen to salesmans bullshit as to why their boats were best.

The amount of times I heard the saleman say that the competetions new boats had issues was unbelievable.

Funny story with that last trip was the pissed salesman from a Trailcraft dealer. Bloody funny winding him up, even funnier watching him unwind.
Poor attitude by a representative of a Brisbane boat dealership...... was bloody funny though.

Havn't been for 2 years now, might go next year for a bo peep.

.... Give me the Ekka back I reckon!

The Ekka ground [smiley=2thumbsup.gif] for sure any day. The Ekka ground had some "character" and was very Queensland as opposed to the perceived "class" of the convention centre in trying to mirror the dull and dreary southern style.

The first year at the convention centre was a complete let down from the old Ekka ground, 3 years latter it hadn't got any better and now still sounds like much the same old drab. Not even slightly interested in "doing it" any more.

Cheers, Kerry.

Came away with a new 12V battery for camping, bunch of SP's and one of those knife sharpener things.

Got out of it no too bad, but now I want to spend $115k on one of those Larson Cabrio cruisers...could end up being a very expensive boat show.

We did a 'hit-n-run' Saturday morning. Main aim was to have a listen to David Greens flathead tips. Picked up some valuable info from one of the masters then had a very quick scoot around at the boats and the overpriced 'bargain' fishing bits ::) and bailed. I couldnt complain, we got to see what we came to see.

took the wife to the boat show on sunday in the hope of convincing her to allow me to buy a new boat to go fishing in, something around the 18 - $20,000 price mark.
what a mistake i am now waiting about 6 weeks for the delivery of a allycraft 510 bow rider with a 90 hp mercury with all the extras including fishfinder, gps, live bait tank, cd player 27 meg radio and a $26,000 + loan to repay guess i will have to suffer with it just to keep her happy ;D ;D ;D

cuda

we are buying it from tweed coast marine
the boat show special price for boat, motor, trailer and regos was $26,100
we added transom door for easier access $600.00
live bait tank ( plumbed ) $250.00 (half price)
they added at no extra cost : spare wheel and bracket, bait board ( factory ) , gps, extra high bimini to save me bending over to walk under it, front and side clears and cup holders,
must admit we are happy with the price
