We saw the Rottnest island ferry do a similar thing several years ago. We were thinking of going over to the island for the day we stayed in Fremantle instead ;D

Apparently i was on that ferry when i was bout 4! similar things happened and i wasn't sick, i must have been born to the sea! It's not unusual for those guys to cross in "6m swell", they just have a bit of trouble getting into wellington. No, i'm not a sheep, but i might be from NZ ;)

Couple more for you.... I have been on sailings across the straight such as these... used to head to the South Island for Xmas most years when growing up.... good fun...

SUILVEN first arrived at Wellington on 13 October 1995, and operated across Cook Strait between Wellington and Picton for many years. When Strait Shipping purchased the French ferry SANTA REGINA in late 2002, SUILVEN transferred to their Wellington to Nelson service.

She was always regarded as a good looking ship, unlike some of the modern versions!

These are fairly recent pics taken "Battling Storms 6 February 2002"

bigal --- As a Surfer, that is "ONE SCARY WAVE". Could you give some info about it please ? ie -- Where is it ?, how deep is the water after the drop off ?(it looks shallow), can it be surfed "properly" without breaking the "world speed record" on water ?,and where do they bury the bodies (if found ) for the people who have a go at it. ? And what are the 2 red bouys on the left of the picture for ?

Fishinmishin, I see you are from the Gold Coast, are you paddling across the bar to get into the Currumbin creek in the above picture ;D
You must have done your vessel handling training down around Cape Palliser in NZ on a fine day ;)

The wave is chopes in Tahiti. That's about an average to getting to big sized wave. Seen bigger at this place. Laird Hamilton (well known and respected surfer) rode it one day when it was huge. He was actualy surfing about 15 foot below sea level. The wave sucks all the water off the reef and makes a wall of death.
Nomad, the reef comes straight up from about 750 foot to nearly dry reef. People do die surfing here, and if you asked every pro surfer if they like surfing chopes at 12 foot they'd kindly tell you.., no.
