Had a little bit of a chuckle today.

Normally the weather forecasters round off their forecasts eg 5 - 10 knots, 10 - 15 knots, 15 - 20 knots etc.

Today though, it looks like a beginner is doing the forecasts....

FORECAST FOR MORETON BAY
Saturday until midnight: N/NW winds 13/18 knots, tending N/NE and increasing to
20/25 knots in the afternoon and evening. Seas rising to 1.5 metres between Mud
Island and Redcliffe. Isolated showers. Chance late storm.
Sunday: NW/N winds 8/13 knots becoming NE 15/20 knots in the afternoon and

But wait there is more...l

When I look at what blowing out on the bay at the moment, this is what I see...

Brisbane Ap 1000 N 13
Cape Moreton 1000 NNW 16
Spitfire Chnl 1000 NNW 13
Inner Beacon 1000 N 15
Banana Bank 1000 N 16
G C Seaway 1000 N 13

Is this guy accurate or what?!!! ;D ;D

I had a bit of a laugh at that as well Charlie. Maybe it's the new age in weather prediction, stepping up a notch, they must rekon they've got it down-pat ::) ::) ;D ;D

So long as they get the 8 - 13 part for tommorrow morning right I'll be happy :-/

Nothing to do with accuracy just the better way to forecast things and if one looks at the beafort scale there's an indication how some of these numbers fit.

This type of forecast has been common practice in many parts of the country for years, nothing new really.

Cheers, Kerry.

It must be the result of the changes in the forecasting methods being used. I believe that the forecasters are now in a buliding that has windows!!!!!

i am sure that you are correct Kerry and I am a raw beginner at understanding weather things but when viewed against the disclaimer in every weather forecast....

PLEASE BE AWARE
Wind gusts can be a further 40 percent stronger than the averages
given here

...the forecast down to the last digit seems at odds with the variability possible. ;D ;D ;D

Great. Mabey they will get it right from now on ;D ;D
Might see ya out there tomorro Sharkbait. I'll be heading to west side Moreton to northern channels. I'll be on VHF ch.77 or 67 after 5am (fishinmishin). Give us a call if out and I'll keep my eye open for surface activity if your up that way.
Good fishing to you ;)

cheers Fishinmishin,

No radio, but I will be out there early, weather depending will head straight for the sandhills and then work north. If not, hang in close around mud.

See you out there.

Kris.

Actually I believe there is a new forecaster, apparently he is a smoker. ;)

In keeping with tough QLD anti smoking laws, he has to go OUTSIDE the building to have a fag. So looking foreward to more accurate forecasts now. ;D

Cheers,
