I was out and about yesterday and decided to take some photos of my home town of Newcastle (2 hours north of Sydney).

The day before was 40C but we got a nice southerly throught and that picked up the surf a fair bit.

Photo 1 shows a stretch of beach that is good for swimming and surfing but no good for fishing. Closest to furthest are; Bar Beach, Dixon Park and Merewether Beach. The furthest rocky headland in the distance is one of my favorite rock fishing spots.

Some of the ships offshore. At times we have had over 20 coal ships at anchor waiting for a berth.

Ment to be some good dollies hanging around those ships at times

This is one of our landmarks.

Nobby's Headland. The hill used to be higher but it was mined for coal and leveled off. The local weather station is up there now.

In the foreground in Nobby's Beach.

In the harbour is where i do some Jew fishing (unsuccessfully :-) )

As you can see a ship is being led in for a short stay.

Heres Nobby's from the other side.

This is the entrance to the harbour and on the far left you can see Stockton Breakwall. It is one of the gun local LBG spots for Jewies.

Past the breakwall is an excellent beach fishing and 4X4 beach.

Last one. Looking back on the city of Newcastle.

Pilot boats in the foreground and the city skyline in the back.

Great pics mate.

I passed through Newcastle by accident a couple of years ago and was really surprised how nice the beaches were.

I was expecting a really depressing industrial landscape and found just the opposite.

I plan on going back one day for a surf and some fishing.
I'll give you a hoy when I do.

Meantime if you're up Brisbane way let me know.

Would the Stockton you mention here, be the famous Stockton Beech that the 4WD'ers get to. The one that has been getting closed off bit by bit by the authorities.
Being from CQ, and an avid 4WD'er, I've always wanted to get down to Stockton for a holiday. Maybe some time soon. If I do get there, it looks like I'll have to bring the boat to.

Hey guys,

Anyone coming to newcastle is more than welcome to get in contact with me and i will take em on a boat ride (lol i would say a fishing trip but i catch nothing :-) )

Yes stockon beach is one of the premier 4X4 trips in australia i am told. As for being closed down i haven't heard this. As far as i know you can drive pretty much as much as it as you like.

Come on down guys the surf is great ;D

Very good pictures of Newcastle, the town in which I live.

I am learning German through the internet, thus I have sent the link to my teacher in Germany, so she can get an impression of the town where one of her students lives.

Stockton beach is not closed down, but beach permits are required. Have a look at this link for the Port Stephens Shire Council http://portstephens.local-e.nsw.gov.au/community/1018/6364.html

lmao. Don't talk German to me about fishing hahahah

I would have trouble buying a fish at the co-op at the moment never mind catching one for myself.
