For those up here and even townsville this may be interesting - the Tropical depression is over Weipa ATM, tipped to spin up but where will it go? Some models predict west and even out off cairns into the coral sea to spin up nice and big before Townsville.
This one might happen in a hurry could be very windy tommorow night or by the weekend. It's all very interesting ATM, I have got a lot of work to do tommorrow, just in case. Thought youse would like to know. cheers nq

With a bit of luck nq, it will piss off and just produce some much needed rain.

Your on par in getting ready for it now. It's too late after it hits.

Corry, I second that, the last thing I or anyone need is one of these. In the last 40 min it has moved by my estimation 12km SSE. I just saw the late weather report on TV and they had it out of Bamaga still, bloody useless report that one, 6 hours old.

nq heres another site to look @ http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDQ65002.shtml
because of the massive tourist accomodation and flight cancellations when a cyclone alert is issued in Cairns WE the locals do not get a very good warning advice re a pending cyclone. You can get a good deal of info from the NT bom re what is happening in Qld. I have monitored the NT site for the last 3 years with good current info on impending cyclones.

Baldy I wondered about that, I almost fell of my chair last night wtching the abc weather quite disintersted, then they brought up the cloud overlay. "bloody hell!" Jumped on the net and found out what was actually happening. Thanks for the link I have it saved, here is one of my fav's It's a bit like Ausfish but weather so if you want good advice not tempered by politics and free of experts self serving opinions check this site/post out they have our weather pegged in real time almost. cheers nq

And this is the one insurance companies use! http://www.tropicalstormrisk.com/

Interesting that computer models have another low forming in the coral sea around Tuesday.

Good links, Great news Whiteman (not!) last night during a bit of a blood rush, (I have a 6 month old daughter so have to view stuff like this differently now)I was chasing info and came across an old CSU report on Cairns and one paragraph got my attention I think it will prove timely sooner or later here it is:

"As it is we now have the situation where virtually everyone has experienced a cyclone, ie. Justin, but with a quarter of the population only knowing a cyclone by that experience, and a further quarter who only have cyclone Joy as a further measure. This leaves us with a population that has largely not experienced a real cyclone, but thinks it has."

Sends a shiver that does :o :o.

Bugger our stuff, in the future we are heading to a shelter if it smells even close to a cat 3. Anyone know of any above a 10m storm surge!!!!
