I remember years ago (I'm talking 30 or so) the singer Col Joy had the Aust record bream at a little over 7lb.
I caught one in the surf in 1976 that weighed 3.2kg and won me a couple of packets of hooks (or something like that) for the 'fish of the week' - I weighed it in at the local bait & tackle shop.
It was caught in the surf at Tathra on the VIC border.

Be interesting to know just how big they grow.

I did see (about 18months ago) three bream for a total weight of 8.7kg - all caught in a lake on the north side... ;D
But mate you're going to have to come down in size from the two snooded 8/0s I seen you use when we have fished together :)

G`day fellas,
The record from memory, was I think 9lb 2 oz,and it was caught at East Hills in nsw.
The fellow was using 20lb line, and a 3\0 hook with mullet gut as bait, but dont hold me to this exactly.
I got one over 5lb at little bar island about 1970,but have never managed to repeat the feat.
cheers

I have a picture of the fish caught by col joy, it was something like 55cm long. A mammoth fish in anyone's books i'm sure.
