We have a special anniversary coming up #[smiley=love.gif] and we were wondering - has anyone been on a South Pacific fishing holiday? What better holiday than to combine our loves of the beach and fishing. There is an advert in "Queensland Fishing Monthly" about fishing holidays in the Solomon Islands. This looks great, but with the civil unrest in that area, we want to explore some other options. Anyone got any suggestions?

Fiji. Been there a few times now and planning the next trip at the moment. There's usually some great deals around if you hunt for them. $499 for return airfares and 4 nights accom. is best I've seen (and experienced ;D). Saw same package recently for $599 but with 5 nights accom.

Could right you a book about Fiji and what's so good about the place, but I havn't got the time. I'd suggest getting hold of a Lonely Planet guide to whatever islands you're interested in. They're the unrivaled authority on travel advice.

In my opinion though, Fiji is one of the better south Pacific islands to visit. Well worth looking into.

Dont write the Solomons off. I have some colleagues who have been working over there for up to two years and they love the place. The civil unrest is basicly a nothing these days.

If I were you I would look a bit deepr into it. The fishing over there is fantastic.

;D we had a ball
you can go fishing on the charters or
have a picnic dinner while shark fishing off the warf
explor the countless tracks
hand feed the fish at neds beach or
just sunbake on the almost empity beaches and enjoy some wine while watching the sun set
i just couldn't put into word how great this place is and being apart of australia just makes it even better
sure go overseas but shouldn't your explore the best country in the world first? ;D

Jugs,

You can certainly do that kind of thing (as shown in the link) in Fiji. I've not done anything like it before, but there are many packages around that cater specifically for sports fishing tours.

Ben what are your recommendations for things to do in Fiji? We are taking the kids on a family holiday so I wasn't planning on doing too much fishing. Thought I would take over a spin rod and some plastics and metal lures for a play along the shore. We are staying in a resort at Sigatoka.

Cheers
