Our "B" roster was very proud of their effort today in getting "Victoria Point 1" from the jetty at our Base to the beach near the Coochiemiudlo Island jetty, collect an adult male in serious pain from a stonefish sting and back to the ambulance in exactly eight (8) minutes. That is moving and the Water Police I believe were very impressed with their efforts. Lots of these fish about Vicky Point with the biggest I have seen being just on 40 cms long! Nowhere in the Bay is really safe from them and best to keep the old runners on when paddling!

Did you lasso him off the beach and tow him back? ;D

Yee Haar!

I hear stonefish bites can be pretty dangerous, they have nasty sharp pointy evil teeth, Much like Rabbits.

Seriously; Well done guys good job ;)

The largest ever recorded stone fish is 18 inches and is kept at James Cook University which was catured in Bowen. They pack a severe wallop and can kill. I have kept one in a tank and are ugly bastards. Have caught a few in cast nets so be wary all you who throw over the arm

Sting? what have Stone fish cross bred with jellyfish?

Surely such a puncture injury would be a stab wound with a following envenomation? ;D

Still bloody good work.

Say congratulations for me.

cheers doug

From someone who lets his kids paddle - with no shoes on, around the Victoria Point foreshore, I say thank you for your warning. I'd hate to see my kids or anyones kid step on a stonefish.

Mate ur not on ur own. I've seen so many people/and kids this year at Vicky Point and Coochie in the water, it was only a matter of time.

Good work to the VMR boys and girls.
Cheers,
