Throwing the spanner in the works, see what everyones opinions are, been a lil while (not long, but long enough) to start organising another M&G, this time a freshy since i think the last 2 or 3 have been salt M&G's.. and area i think might be worthwhile trying is Borumba.. dont know what you guys and girls think thats why we have this ere discussion.. #

but Borumba is a worthwhile Spot, its just outside Imbil, north of noosa and south of gympie, takes from 2hrs to 3hrs for most to get there unlike the last freshwater M&G at Bjelke Peterson Dam, good bbq facilities at the ramp, easy access but still it is a dam so the ramp can be steep for some cars.. large camping grounds, large covered areas, the camping grounds are about 500 meters away from the ramp with toilet/shower block aswell as a toilet block at the ramp, most commonly targetted species are bass and saratoga which are fairly common and theres a large ski area there for familys or you can take the kids to the deer park which also has cabins you can rent out

Anyways, throw your ideas in, thats mine

Hi Tim,

I have never fished Borumba (been there for a picnic, lovely spot), the only fresh water fishing I have done is in Awoonga and I caught sweet F.A.

In other words... I'll be interested. I will take my boat** but hopefully if there are a few others, I will get a ride with someone who knows what they are doing.

**Can someone point me to the regulations when fishing Borumba.

Im not to fussed on where you have it, the last 3 M&Gs it has blown its nuts out so its more a matter of a place out of the wind to have a few drinks

Tim sounds good to me......been there years ago and found the area very interesting.
When are you thinking about going up there?
Its not long now until winter sets in.
Cheers Brent ;)

Mick, Borumba is on the SIP Plan so anyone fishing will need a 3 day permit atleast.. cost about $5 from your local tackleshop

Brent, dont know when the plan will go ahead, im just throwing in a suggestion that we should have one soon, dont know about dates, but someone must have an idea of what should be a good weekend for it? gotta be one or 2 coming up soon

Is it too late to begin talking in code so the fish dont see us coming this time?

Even though it's heading towards the wrong time of the year .... where's themost southern impoundment to catch Barra. Is there some south of Awonga?

For some time now I've been advocating a beach fishing M&G.
Winter is the ideal time.

A big camp over on main beach Straddie would be a great long weekend.

Freshwater sounds the goods Tim
Brett
There are good numbers of Barra at Monduran, 20km north of Gin Gin, but that will add about 2 hrs more driving for you southerners.
Monduran would be better for me but I will be in for Borumba also.
Don't think I would be able to make straddie though.

ok, maybe a barra haunt might be the go for those who want to fish the fresh... i only mentioned fresh because the last few have been salt.. and its about time some of us had a change.. plus it does our outboards good if they get a good run in the freshwater

this may be up there with the stupidist questions ever asked on ausfish, but what is the m&g?

Zeeke
13-04-2005, 04:11 PM
M&G (Meet and Greet) is a Social Gathering of Ausfishers to meet other members and have a few drinks together, talk fishing or anything like that and just have a good time

Hi ya Tim
If you can settle on a date for a fresh esp at Borumba count me in - and I'll give a hand to organise.
Not in the league of Phil but if you can get the AusFish guys together - they will drink and have a good time around a bath tub.
A saratog. will be an added bonus.
Let us know what you are thinking - couple of us will be keen to give a hand. - sorry Craigie

What about The Bedrooms or northern tip of South Straddie to mix a bit of Surf and boating based fishing opportunities.
Main beach would be good [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]
Or Rainbow
Or Yamba
Or Brunswick Heads
Or Cabarita
Or just about anywhere we can have a few cleansing ales (or poison of choice) a chance of a fish and a camp fire

Count me in.

Dont really mind where we go.

The boat and trailer need a good soaking in the fresh though.

Do the wives and squids generally tag along or is it just a big p!ss up?

What can we expect to catch?

Zeeke
14-04-2005, 04:35 PM
Bass and Yellowbelly.. you might get toga, but bass are out in the open more, i think you might find bass on the surface more around this time of year, dont kick me if im wrong i dont fish the fresh much, but surface lures early in the morning around dawn might be the top thing if ur keen for some action.. small 50mm to 70mm poppers slowly worked around the banks and such might provide some awesome fishing

I havent got any dates set, but if anyone wants to make a suggestion.. even if it doesnt turn into a full blown m&g, maybe just a social get together and fish, Dug has a spot in my boat if he wants it, cuz i need someone to tow my tub up there, but yeh, make a suggestion on dates and we can go from there

Tim if we are going to set a date it will have to be soon because #its going to get very cold up there as winter aproaches.
I was chatting to a guy who has been fishing borumba the past month and he said water levels are close to 100%......very weedy around the banks and he advised bringing plenty of spinner baits along.
He said the saratoga love the warmer water so the longer we wait the colder the water.
Hard bodies will work but there's lots of submerged timber to get hooked on sometimes 2 metres beneath the boat.
The township of Imbil is only a 15 minute drive from the Dam so supplies can be bought from here if needed.
How about the 7th/8th of May?
Cheers #Brent
