Hello all !

I will hopefully be travelling to your country this year and want to fish as much as possible.

I'm thinking of going north for Barramundi, maybe some marlin fishing
but the truth is I dont know what species are available in what areas???

So I would like some recomendations on areas to fish and guides to charter.
Also I'd like to inquire about anyone who might want to "trade a trip" and I can return the favor when you visit the US

I am a full time fly & light tackle guide on the Mosquito Lagoon & Indian river in Florida and want to fish 90% of time I'm there. I'd like to experience as many angling oportunities I can while there

Thanks for any help

Thats a big question.

First get an atlas - Australia is about the same size as Continental USA - with the population of greater NY - so the roads and infrastructure can be thin in places.

I could not see an email address on your web site - I can send you more in that format.

What does everyone else think of my plan:

Dave Donald at Weipa

Cairns for Marlin

Further south for Barramundi in impoundments

An offshore trip near Proserpine or Bundaberg

Wivenhoe for Aussie Bass

An offshore trip with Mono at Brunswick Heads

Gary, good plan I reckon.

I would suggest Peter Stevens charter around 1770 (cant remember the name of his business though - Agnes Jck might help here!) Stevo knows the waters aropund there like the back of his hand, and can pretty much guarantee iof theres a decent fish to be caught, it will happen! (But you work for it!)

This website services people over a vast area and the fishing conditions change according to Time and place.
I speak out of turn as this is not my web site but

Brisbane is the base for many of the anglers on this site
There is good pelagic action close to most ports from the mid NSW coast to the gold coast in queensland to the barrier reef up to cairns approx 2500KM ( miles mmmmm roughly 1600 i think )
Christmas to April /May.
Probably the questions to ask are the following
1) Where are you planning on Holidaying( ie are you travelling ).
2) What time of year approx.
3) What type of fishing

Thanks guys for the replys

More than likely I will be flying into Sydney. The time I'm coming over is still under debate. I will be accompaning my Mom & Dad. They arent the best health anymore and need some help travelling (thats where I come in) We have family in Brisbane they will be visiting and then they are taking a tour for a week or so. During that time I'm on my own and want to fish, fish, fish

From what I've found on web, the northern Cape York area is good for a variety of species, been looking at this site http://www.seafaris.com/default.asp

Also found this site which was interesting although I cant find Hervey Bay on map???
http://www.frasercoastsportfishing.com/artman/publish/cat_index_1.shtml

another site I recently saw is www.gofishaustralia.com

I'd rather do more light tackle/fly fishing than anything else. and would prefer to be able to target multiple species.

any help would be great and returned if your ever in Florida

You can find a map showing Hervey Bay in relation to Brisbane from this link...
http://www.seedownunder.com.au/destination/queensland/fraser-coast/hervey-bay/hervey-bay-map/
Type Hervey Bay into Google for more links.
Have a great time Down Under when you get here!

Just depends on how long you have in our beautiful country. I would suggest the following

Taklk to Carol at Cairns Reef Charter Service for fishing in and around Cairns - http://www.ausfish.com.au/crcs/

Talk to Lindsay Dobe at Proserpine Bait & Tackle regarding freshwater impoundment fishing for Barra
http://barramundicharters.com/

Talk to Agnes Jack regarding Agnes Water/1770 area http://www.agnesbaitntackle.com/
http://www.ausfish.com.au/cgi-ausfish/board/YaBB.cgi?board=Reports;action=display;num=11207464 67

Then head down to Brunswick Heads and go for a fish with Mono http://www.ausfish.com.au/bpc/
