about 2.5km east of old woman island.

if this wind keeps up it wont happen.

they need less than 10knots and minimal swell to make sure it goes down correctly.

cheers mal

Sorry didn't mean that the way it read.

I have a big Yellow Mark on the water ...BUT not at that percise location that location is reserved for
HMAS Brisbane along with Beatie and Co to go down with her to the bottom as Burley.

Hey Rob,

Are you refering to "Memorabilia" All that has been stripped from her. Over 400 tons has been removed in the last 12 months. Then again I did notice the 4.5 inch gun still mounted on the back, that'l keep the hunters busy ;D

Garry,
I would love to be there to bid the old girl farewell. Unfortunately work will get the better of me I am afraid. But I will be waiting in hope that some upstanding member of the AUSFISH community will post some pics of it.

No doubt, with all the money that has been spent, it will be broadcast on the news as well. I hope someone gets a good video of it for those of us that are to far away to be able to get out to see it.

Hi Guys ,
If you have alook at the EPA web site they have updated the Info on the sinking .
They say its dependant on the weather , but its booked in to happen at 10 AM July 31st .
IF you have a look at this section of the Web site ,
http://www.epa.qld.gov.au/media/sink_the_brisbane/exclusion_zone_HMAS_brisbane.pdf it has a Map on where its going to be sunk , and it shows where private craft can view the sinking .
I tried to get a copy of it , but couldn't figure how to do it ???
She is being sunk with her stern at site X & her bow pointing due East .
Spot X is at Lat 26 37.000 S / 153 10.133 E
There is a 1 nM square NO GO Zone around the sinking area .
There will be 4 Yellow X buoys on the Western side of the square where recrational & pleasure vessles can view the sinking . Northern Side Commercial & Navy Craft / South side for VIP Vessels Only & the Eastern side a Vessel free area .
The GPS Marks for the Square & Yellow Buoys are :-
NE cnr - 26 36.500 S / 153 10.683 E
SE cnr - 26 37.500 S / 153 10.683 E
NW cnr - 26 36.500 S / 153 09.576 E
SW cnr - 26 37.500 S / 153 09.576 E
The 2 other buoys on the Western side are between the 2 NW & SW cnrs listed above , and are at
26 36.833 S / 153 09.576 E.
26 37.167 S / 153 09.576 E.

See you there

How come the Govt can sink a dirty big ship, but I cant lay a few old road pipes, bike frames etc to make an artifical reef.
Seems to me there should be a whole lot more artificial reefs allowed.
Opinions!!

Just got off the phone to Port Of Brisbane ::)Ph:38603700
They are saying she will leave there at 2200 Fri night and should take around 13-14 hours ??? to arrive up on the coast.
containers take around 4-5 hours so it is having a slow trip.

Having once had to cut myself out of fishing line while diving a wreck (purpose sunk for diving), it would be much appreciated if fishing DIDN'T take place on the wreck of the Brisbane! I think a lot of us underestimate just how dangerous tangled fishing line is to divers. It's not easily cut with a knife underwater, and near bloody invisible - numerous divers have drowned over the years around the world thanks to fishing line.

I'm both a fisho and a diver - fishing on an artificial wreck put down specifically for the dive tourism industry is going to create unnecessary potentially life-threatening hazards, and foster a bad perception of us fishos in general. Like we need more of that. The wreck is shallow enough that relative-beginner divers will be able to dive it, they don't need the stress of dealing with a line entanglement while on a limited air supply.

I'll probably travel up from Melbourne in the next 12 months or so to dive on it - it will be huge for the local economy - $22 million in tourism revenue is one figure I heard.

It will make a hell of an aggregation site though [smiley=2thumbsup.gif], fishing around the exclusion zone should still be excellent - it's amazing to watch the pelagics come in out of blue water around wrecks.

cheers

Scubaroo... Good point. I would have never thought of that and Iam sure that a lot of other would be the same, maybe a NEW TOPIC on that would be good, because I am sure there will be a lot of moon light fishing going on, and if people understand the danger to others then it may make them realise.... WHY..... there is an exclusion zone
It must be like swimming into a spiders web that you can't see.

Great Post

Ah yes but will the government be willing to spend the same amount/time on a fishing only wreck!!
